Closure

So, today is basically the final day of the project for this period. Hopefully it will be continued next period. 20 weeks ago we set out to create a product and we had planned to finish it by now. Due to some circumstances we haven’t quite completed our goals. The temperature sensor was ordered, only it was delivered after weeks instead of the estimated days. That made sure the temperature sensor wasn’t completely done.
Basically everything was going very smooth until the symposium on the 8th of May, and after that thing got kind of hang up and progress slowed down. There was still work getting done, only no pressure to get it done.
The shirt we had on the 8th of May is still there, only focus shifted to fine tuning the sensors and everything around it. The DPA is finished and so are the reports. Those we handed over yesterday.
In a couple of hours, the final presentations take place here in Assen, and after that we are done.

Like I said, I’m hoping the project can and will be continued next period, because this project had a lot of potential.

Update

It's been a bit quite here the last time, sorry for that. In the last few weeks we were busy perfecting the sensors. Especially Ronald and Erwin were working on this. Erwin is focussing on the temperature sensor. He has ordered a new one, which wasn’t as accurate as we had hoped, so he had to order yet an other new one. Right now he is calibrating it for our propose. Ronald is working with Dennis (from the Swimsor) to figure out a device called the DSP. This device is meant to stabilise the breath sensor results. Right now the readings change radically when you move, causing a very imperfect and unreliable result. In the mean time Henk and I both designed a G.U.I. for the D.P.A. (Digital Personal Assistant, also know as the ‘iPod application’). We made it into a little competition between us, so we would have a bit of a challenge to get the best possible result. This week we’ll see the result of that. Also we’re looking into carbon fibre pads. We have a sheet of very flexible carbon fibre, and the aim is to use that as the heart sensor. The original heart sensor was dismantled to see how it ticks, and thanks to that info we’ll now evolve that into our own carbon fibre heart sensor design. We’re still working on that as I type this.

This period has about 4-5 weeks to go till the end, and the temperature and heart sensor will probably be finished by then. The breath sensor might be a different story because of the complexity of the DSP.

Symposium

On friday, the 8th of May, the Marina de Wolfcentrum from Ermelo had their symposium, and we send Henk there to show our current status. As you can see on the pictures below, he is showing the shirt (with the heartrate and breathing sensor installed) to the crowd.





The crowd was very enthousiastic, and confident for the future.

Reinforcements II

After Marijn left us at the end of the previous week, we now have two new guys to replace him.

Ronald Reitsema and Erwin Hof have joind the team and will take care of the ICT work within the project. 

The started with everything Marijn created and read the documents we made.

After only three days they had the hartrate on screen and Herman (from the Hartfalen project) is working on the sensor-hardware. The breath sensor and temperature sensor are taking shape and both are showing results on the oscilator. We are confident now we can show things during the symposium of the Marina the Wolfcentrum on may 8th.

The heart sensor is also working, and is integrated in the shirt:

Next week is a holiday, so there won't be much news.

The end of Marijn's Minor

Hey all,

It is almost a month ago that we posted, that's because we were very busy!

We went to 2 events :
- Zorg & ICT Beurs
- Noodpakket voor IT'ers congres

Which have really inspired us. We really had a nice time meeting new people and doing some work.

I made a Desktop Application which is able to show the measurments of the sensors.

Now my time is over and it's time that someone else takes the ICT work in this project.
I'm sorry that I have not posted in a while. My source and documents will be released later by the next group when we have a complete product.

Time flies

...when you're busy. We spend this week on further developing the software, and worked on documentating the comming research process.

In the beginning of the week we presented our current situation to the other CENSI projects, and they presented their status as well. It was a very interesting day. Also this week, we paid a visit to the Marina de Wolfcentrum in Ermelo. Wich was interesting aswell. Also, the people in Ermelo had some feedback on the PvA, wich will be implemented into it.

Busy Bees

Hey All,

We are sorry that we have not updated out blog for a while now.

We are currently very busy with the research and realisation of our product.

Sensors and hardware.

I have worked on the Polar Heart Rate sensor, which I did some tests with on our collegue Henk.

I have some graphs of those tests and I will try to upload them a.s.a.p.

Furthermore, we have arranged a bluetooth module that works with our SunSPOT (BlueSmirf Bluetooth Gold from Sparkfun). It enables us to warn the client on their mobile phone via bluetooth.

Planning.

As I already said, we are very busy with HdH and try our best to deliver a proof-of-concept product by week 10.

So, I hope to give you all a new heads-up soon.
